CARMEN WAS FORCED OUT OF HER HOME, BUT FOUGHT HER WAY BACK

When Carmen’s daughter turned 18, it should have been a day to celebrate. But that same day, the bailiffs came round to Carmen’s house.

With no children dependent on her, Carmen was no longer entitled to her home. She was evicted and forced out onto the streets. Unsure where to turn, she walked through our door and was hesitant to ask for help. After we reassured her, she explained her situation. We contacted Street Link and told them where Carmen was planning to sleep rough. That same night, Street Link placed her in emergency accommodation. She was given a case worker by the council – and we worked closely with them to help find Carmen more permanent social housing. In the meantime, we helped her find a place to store her belongings, before the council gave her a deposit for a studio flat in Enfield. We arranged for a van to help her move in and gave her bedding and blankets for her new home.

Throughout this whole process, Carmen had been working. It just shows how tough it is to pay for a house in London. Today, Carmen is still living in the same flat and is much more confident and happy. She visits us regularly and we continue to support her in any way we can.
