Advice and Advocacy

Our casework service supports people out of homelessness by providing independent, specialist housing advice and support to access longer term accommodation. We also work with our guests to access help with wider needs, such as financial exclusion, debt, unemployment, physical and mental health issues, drug and alcohol misuse, and domestic abuse.

We provide guests with access to essentials such as food and clothing, phones and phone credit, hardship payments, and help with travel costs.

Winter Night Shelters

2010 - On going

For over 10 years we have delivered roving winter shelters across Haringey and Enfield. Working with a wide variety of partners and faith settings across the two boroughs we have provided 24 beds to people facing street homelessness; welcoming them in and ensuring that they receive a hot meal and somewhere safe to sleep during the coldest months. Alongside casework support and advocacy to resolve their housing crisis. This has been delivered with the fantastic support of over 400 community volunteers.

During Covid we delivered a ‘static’ shelter service. First from a rented property and then via hotel based accommodation. We are currently finalising what our 22/23 Night Shelter provision will be.

The Annex - Haringey

June 2021 - June 22

This year-round, women only service in Haringey provided 5 beds to women otherwise facing street homelessness. Women experiencing homelessness have very different needs to men, and we realise how important it is for women to have a safe space to be and a tailored approach to how we support them.

At the Annex we offered a warm and welcoming space to go in the evening, overnight accommodation, breakfast and evening meals, and a private room for each guest. We placed value on fostering a warm, homely environment where our guests were able to relax, chat and connect with staff and volunteers, as well as each other. Forming positive connections and building trust and relationships is key to improving mental health and moving out of homelessness.

Alongside the accommodation, we offered our guests specialist support from our Women's Caseworker, who helps the guests form a plan and take actions to secure more stable housing.

Somewhere Safe to Stay - Haringey

Sep 2019 - Jun 2021

We worked with Haringey council to deliver this year-round homeless shelter project which provided emergency accommodation to 30 guests with medium to low support needs. The service offered a warm welcome and a safe space to stay whilst guests worked with our team and other agencies to resolve their housing crisis.

Through our amazing volunteer network we were able to ensure that guests received nutritious and home cooked meals every night of the week.

Our staff team provided advice and advocacy to guests and worked in partnership with the council and health teams to support guests to move onto more sustainable and appropriate accommodation which could meet their needs in the long-term.
