Elif’s dilemma
Elif first came to our day centre after being evicted from the home she shared with her three adult children. Rent arrears had left the family with no choice but to separate. Her children moved in with their father – and Elif relied on friends for temporary shelter.
She already had a council caseworker, but was struggling to gather and submit the right documents. With a strict deadline in place, Elif faced losing the council’s duty to help her, leaving her at real risk of homelessness.
That’s when we stepped in.
We contacted her caseworker, supported Elif with document collection and ensured everything was submitted on time. Throughout the process, Elif was struggling with her mental health – and without ongoing support she would have found the system impossible to navigate.
Finding a property was challenging. Elif wanted her adult children to live with her, while they felt ready to move on. We had compassionate, honest conversations to help her make the difficult decisions needed for long-term stability.
Eventually, she accepted a studio that offered safety, security and a fresh start. We helped her settle in by providing essential kitchen items, easing the transition into her new home.
Today, Elif is happily settled, no longer at risk of homelessness and finally able to focus on rebuilding her life. With your support, we can help even more people like Elif in Enfield and Haringey.
